A 79-foot-tall Norway spruce from Cecil County is making its way to New York City today, November 11.

The tree was grown on private property in Elkton, but the identity of the donors has not been revealed. It is set to arrive over the weekend and will be decorated with 50,000 multi-colored LED lights on about five miles of wire and topped with a 900-lb. Swarovski star, complete with 70 spikes.

Since the tradition began in 1933, the tree has most often been sourced from Upstate New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. Other trees have come from as far away as Canada. It is the very first time a tree from Maryland will grace Rockefeller Center in the 90-year tradition.
