The U.S. Department of Education announced that Montgomery College will receive a federal grant of $1,368,965 over a five-year period. 

Yesterday, Montgomery College was awarded a federal TRIO Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) grant of $1,368,965, to be used over the next five years  (the college will receive $273,793 per year). According to a press release from the college, the TRIO EOC will annually serve at least 1,000 first-generation, low-income, non-bachelor’s degree holders as well as veterans and their families in Montgomery County.

According to the Department of Education, “the Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post-baccalaureate programs.”

In fall 2020, Montgomery College received a TRIO Student Support Services grant to help first-generation students, students with low income, and students with disabilities persist in completing degrees.
