Maryland’s Congressional Delegation today announced $4.6 million in CARES Act funding to address housing and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in Prince George’s County.
Prince George’s County will receive $3,036,958 through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and $1,523,903 from Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG).
“Everyone deserves a stable and affordable place to call home,” said the lawmakers. “As COVID-19 has left many in Prince George’s County without jobs and struggling to support their families, these federal funds will ensure that no one has to worry about keeping a roof over their head while recovering from this public health and economic crisis.”
The Community Development Block (CDBG) Grants program provides annual grants to states and local governments to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low-and moderate-income residents.
The Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) program provides annual grants to state, local, and private entities to assist people in quickly regaining stability in permanent housing after experiencing a housing crisis and/or homelessness. In addition to rapid re-housing and homelessness prevention, the ESG program provides limited funding for street outreach as well as for improving the quality and number of emergency homeless shelters.
