Montgomery Extends Deadline for Business Personal Property Tax Payments

montgomery-co-MD-sealMontgomery County Executive Marc Elrich issued an executive order suspending time requirements for the County’s 2020 business personal property (BPP) tax. The deadline for remitting BPP payments will be extended until after Governor Larry Hogan lifts the statewide state of emergency that has been in place since March.

“Businesses in Montgomery County have experienced some tough times in this pandemic,” said County Executive Elrich. “Many have closed, laid-off employees. They have been challenged in so many ways. This executive order is another way we are assisting our business community.”

BPP bills are issued each month, and payment is due 30 days after the date on the bill. Suspending the payment deadline allows extra time for businesses to pay the tax until they can begin to recover from the COVID-19 public health crisis.

Businesses that have outstanding tax bills will have to pay the taxes by the end of the month that follows the month during which the emergency is lifted.
