Federal Water Infrastructure Funding Legislation Introduced

Hill article (2018-05-08) reported on the introduction of biennial federal legislation (S. 2800) that funds water infrastructure undertaken by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The “America’s Water Infrastructure Act of 2018” is jointly sponsored by Republican Senator John Barrasso (Wyoming) and Democrat Senator Tom Carper (Delaware) and would provide funding of water infrastructure projects that could assist in Chesapeake Bay restoration efforts. The bill is part of a series of legislation designed to upgrade the nation’s infrastructure

The article noted that Senator Ben Cardin (Maryland) is a co-sponsor on the bill. From the article:

“Clean water is not a partisan issue and I have been proud to work with my colleagues to develop legislation that will benefit water resources and infrastructure nationwide,” Cardin said in a statement. “Congress has a responsibility as a strong partner with states and localities to repair our nation’s hidden water infrastructure and open waterways.”

The article also discussed a reporting requirement in the bill about improving transparency with the Corps.
