The University of Maryland’s Environmental Finance Center (EFC) has announced the availability of a new online course for local governments on managing their stormwater assets. The course is offered through the Municipal Online Stormwater Training (MOST) Center. The MOST Center is designed to provide educational and technical assistance to local governments on the creation, financing, and management of stormwater restoration programs and projects.

The Municipal Online Stormwater Training (MOST) Center was established in 2015 to help bridge the gap in needed technical and financial stormwater management resources in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. This free, virtual center was created to eliminate barriers communities often cite as obstacles to implementing effective stormwater management programs – accessibility issues, budget restraints, and lack of expertise. The MOST Center will provide stakeholders with effective tools to better communicate about, build, and enhance their stormwater programs. The MOST Center will use interactive lessons, videos, graphics, knowledge checks, and other tools to deliver training content in an engaging, user-friendly format. In the coming years, the MOST Center also aims to be an important source of stormwater news, information, peer-to-peer discussion, and case studies that demonstrate local success.
MOST Center courses are online, free, and take between 1 and 3 hours to complete. Among the current courses are: (1) Asset Management for Stormwater; (2) Stormwater Financing 101; (3) Introduction to Local Government Stormwater Financing; and (4) The Building Blocks of an Effective Stormwater Management Program. Additional courses will be added in 2017.
