Maryland’s 2015 median household income was $75,847 in 2015 – once again the highest in the country, and up 2.4 percent since 2014, reports The Baltimore Sun. Nationally, the median household income grew 3.8 percent, meaning that Maryland’s median income growth lagged behind the nation’s.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau:

Median household income in the United States was $56,516 in 2015, an increase in real terms of 5.2 percent from the 2014 median of $53,718. This is the first annual increase in median household income since 2007, the year before the most recent recession.

Washington, D.C. had the second highest median household income in 2015 at $75,628 – growing 5.5 percent from the previous year.

The Baltimore area’s median household income grew by just 1.3 percent in 2015. Its poverty rate declined slightly to 10.6 percent. The national poverty rate was 14.7 percent, down 0.8 percent from 2014. Maryland’s poverty rate in 2015 was 9.7 percent, which is also down from the previous year.
