MACo President & Washington County Commissioner John Barr

MACo President and Washington County Commissioner John Barr visited with the St. Mary’s County Board of County Commissioners during their board meeting on August 2, 2016. Barr was joined by MACo Legal & Policy Counsel Les Knapp and Research Director Robin Clark Eilenberg.

Barr thanked the Commissioners for their support of MACo and stressed that he was committed to hearing and addressing any concerns they might have. Knapp and Clark provided an update on MACo’s accomplishments and challenges during the 2016 Session and discussed the results of a recent MACo educational symposium.

The Commissioners thanked MACo for its efforts and particularly noted how MACo staff provided information on the differences between the commission and code home rule forms of county government earlier this year. The question of whether the County should switch to code home rule will be on the local ballot in November.

With the St. Mary’s visit concluded, Barr only has two counties out of the 24 left to visit: Baltimore City and Howard County. Both of those meetings have been scheduled.
