Baltimore County is set to launch its police body camera program next week. The details of the launch will be shared at a news conference Thursday afternoon.

As reported in The Baltimore Sun:

The first 150 officers to be outfitted with cameras will come from all 10 county precincts, with the rest to start using them in July 2017. Eventually, a total of 1,435 county officers are scheduled to use the devices.

County leaders said they would discuss departmental policies on the cameras and rules for releasing the footage to the public.

As previously reported on Conduit Street, the initial phase of the body camera program was to launch July 1, 2016. Over the course of a year the county will study the impact of the program and see where things can improve. Complete deployment of the program is aimed for July 1, 2017. Deployment will be phased in across all precincts and is expected to cost $7 million over the initial few years.
