Pennsylvania’s Governor and General Assembly are still trying to pass a budget for the fiscal year that began on July 1, 2015. The most recent defeat in the 100 day stalemate was Governor Wolfe’s proposed plan to raise the personal income tax by a half-percentage point and impose a tax on Marcellus Shale natural gas production to avoid spending cuts in the budget.

As reported by the WITF news,

The defeat was just the latest in a series of partisan votes and Wolf vetoes with the two sides unable to find much common ground on a budget for the fiscal year that began July 1.

Republicans have argued the income tax hike of a half-percentage point would be borne mostly by working families and that the gas tax could damage the state’s drilling industry.
