Anne Arundel County Council Approves Study of Body Cameras

The Anne Arundel County Council voted unanimously in support of a resolution backing the State’s efforts to create a commission to study and make recommendations on the use of body cameras for police officers.  As reported in The Capital Gazette:

The resolution before the County Council, which was introduced by Chairman Jerry Walker, R-Crofton and Councilman Andrew Pruski, D-Gambrills, expresses support for a step before that — the study of how body cameras could be used for the county’s police and sheriff’s departments.

In an interview prior to the meeting, Pruski said he wanted to see what the legal and financial ramifications of having the cameras would be before determining if there is a need locally.

“We need to be ahead of the game,” Pruski said. “It’s going to come down the pike at some point.”

At the meeting, all seven council members voted in favor of the resolution, which was introduced the same night.
