On March 9 the House Environment and Transportation Committee voted unfavorably on HB 271, which have required local governments with speed camera programs to conduct quarterly audits. MACo opposed the bill, noting that last year’s omnibus speed camera reform legislation rejected the idea of quarterly audits and instead instituted an annual reporting requirement that includes both fiscal and performance metrics for speed camera programs. Local governments submit the metrics data to the Maryland Police Training Commission, who compiles the annual report and submits the report to the General Assembly. The annual reports are also available for review by the general public.
