Academy Announces New Graduate Level Course Through University of MD

“Building your Leadership Capacity” is a two-part leadership development program offered exclusively for graduates of the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance. It is offered through the University of Maryland’s School of Public Policy, in partnership with the Academy’s founders: the Maryland Association of Counties, the Maryland Municipal League, and the Local Government Insurance Trust. academylogo

The first session, “Building your Leadership Capacity: Start with Self,” will be held on Friday, April 25, 2014 and the second session, “Building your Leadership Capacity: Invite Change,” will be held on Friday, September 19, 2014. Both sessions will be held at the Local Government Insurance Trust in Hanover, MD and will be facilitated by Dr. Regina Romero.

This interactive leadership workshop will focus on three questions:

  • Who are you as a leader?
  • What is your key leadership challenge in your elected or appointed role?
  •  How can you build the right support for leading more effectively?

Using the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (Step II), participants will be able to explore their strengths and potential pitfalls and examine their leadership challenges through a different lens. Through peer interaction and skills practice, participants will build support that will carry them beyond the workshop to enhance their leadership effectiveness.
