After a formula distribution change reduced the funding level for a local aging program in Talbot County, council members approved a supplemental appropriation from the county contingency fund to keep the program whole. As reported by the Star Democrat:

In order to help some of the County’s most vulnerable citizens, Talbot County Council has decided to dip into its contingency fund after Upper Shore Aging, Inc. was left with a shortfall of almost $22,000 for its new fiscal year, which begins in October.

The lack of funds would have effected many services that Upper Shore Aging provides, most specifically, food and nutritional programs that help the elderly stay in the community and in their homes.

“If the government wants people to age in place, they need to provide us with resources,” Judy Shuler said, who is Manager of the Talbot County Senior Center, Brookletts Place.
