Senate Balcony Bill Re-Amended, Still Pending

SB 18, legislation to require high buildings to have balcony inspections on a regular basis, has been held up on the Senate floor pending amendments and continued questioning. After receiving input from MACo and county governments, the bill sponsor has offered amendments on the floor that address MACo’s concerns about it posing an unfunded mandate on local governments to conduct these inspections.

Read the latest amendments to SB 18, offered by Senator Young.

SB 18 is scheduled to be taken up (again) on the Senate floor as a “special order of business” this morning. The crossfiled bill in the House, HB 469, has not yet been voted. Delegate Stein, the House sponsor, has also received MACo’s concerns and the latest amendment language from the Senate bill.
