On February 21, the Anne Arundel County Council chose Laura Neuman of Annapolis as Anne Arundel’s new executive.  She will be sworn in Friday morning, February 22, at Anne Arundel County Circuit Court.

As posted in the Capital Gazette, Neuman said after the vote,

“We need to take a look at how the county is run. That would be my top priority,” adding it was too early to say what changes need to be made.

Prior to being chosen as Anne Arundel County’s executive, Ms. Neuman served as CEO of the Howard County Economic Development Authority.

From the Capital coverage:

Prior to her appointment as director of Howard County Economic Development two years ago, Neuman worked in the technology industry as a venture capitalist.

“She has done a lot of good things in turning companies around, and she had a record of hiring good people,” [Council Member Dick] Ladd said after the meeting.

“She has energy. She has strategic vision. Now we’ve got to apply that. I see a difference between what you do in venture capitalism and what you need to do in government.”
