Anne Arundel County Requires Automatic Defibrillators at Swimming Pools

A July 3 Capital article discusses the Anne Arundel County Council’s recent decision to require all county public and semi-public schools to be equipped with automatic external defibrillators.

The Anne Arundel County Council on Monday night passed Connor’s Law, named for the 5-year-old Crofton boy who drowned at the Crofton Country Club’s pool in 2006. The law mandates the devices at about 275 pools throughout the county.  …

The bill was written as emergency legislation, meaning it takes effect immediately. But pools that don’t have the devices yet will not immediately be cited, said Alan Friedman, director of government relations for County Executive John R. Leopold.
