Former State Senator Walter Baker Passes Away

Former State Senator Walter M. Baker passed away on Tuesday at the age of 84.  Representing Cecil County for 24 years, the Democratic Senator worked tirelessly for his constituents.  During his tenure, Baker served as the chairman of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee from 1987-2003 where he gained the reputation as a “no-nonsense” chairman. Senate President Thomas V. “Mike” Miller spoke candidly with CecilDaily.com about the legacy Baker has left behind:

Senate President Thomas V. “Mike” Miller called Baker “a great friend” Tuesday reflecting on his passing.

“He was a lifelong Democrat – a very conservative Democrat, who loved the Eastern Shore and embraced those values, which we respected,” Miller said.

“He swung votes every time he stood up on the Senate floor to speak,” Miller said, noting that Baker loved helping people.

MACo sends  condolences to Baker’s family and friends.
