Cecil County FY12 Budget Includes Decrease in Property Tax Rate

The Cecil County Board of Commissioners passed the FY 12 budget last week on a 3-2 vote.  The adopted budget includes a half-cent decrease in the property tax, bringing the rate below constant yield.  The budget also includes across the board spending cuts that total $7.7 million and  $1.2 million reduction in the appropriation to the school board.  The cut to the schools still enables the county to meet the state’s maintenance of effort.  The Commissioners reached an agreement over a controversial cut to the Sheriff’s office,  that centered on the loss of $700,000 in state aid to the Community  Adult Rehabilitation Center by funding about half of the loss with the Sheriff making an additional cut to the departmental budget.
