Charles County Commissioner President Candice Quinn Kelly recently announced her plan to run for the Maryland House of Delegates for Charles County, District 28, based on Delegate Peter F. Murphy’s decision not to seek re-election. Instead Delegate Murphy will run for Kelly’s current office.

From the SoMdNews article:

“When I knew he wasn’t going to run for the House of Delegates, I decided I would very much like to give that a try,” Kelly said. “A lot of it has to do with my temperament. I really enjoy that research, policy-driven sort of work.”

Kelly also spoke about Murphy’s intentions to run for commissioners’ president, a move local political observers have speculated on for months. She said she “absolutely” would not have run for delegate had he not chosen to run for board president.

“His attitude was, if you’re not going to run, I’m going to run for commissioners president, and I was like, if you’re not going to run for delegate, that’s something I would very much like to give a try,” she added.
