The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is implementing a new Strategic Demolition and Smart Growth Impact Fund (SGIF). This funding, for which local governments are eligible to apply, is seeking to catalyze activities that accelerate economic development, job production and smart growth in existing Maryland communities. The SGIF aims to improve the economic viability of “grey field development” which often faces more barriers than sprawling “green field development.” Since funds are limited, awards will focus on those smart growth projects that can have a high economic and revitalization impact in their existing communities. In FY13, up to $2.5 million will be made available in the form of grants or loans.
All applicants must attend an application workshop to be held on the following dates:
- Tuesday, August 28, 10am – 12noon OR 2pm – 4pm (DHCD Crownsville)
- Wednesday, August 29, 10am – 12noon OR 2pm – 4pm (NR office, Baltimore)
Both a notification of intent to apply and a full application are being requested of all SGIF applicants.
Notification of Intent to Apply – Due Friday, September 14, 2012
