Proposed Anne Arundel Budget Hikes Property Tax To Stave Off Furloughs

Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold has proposed his FY 2013 budget, including an increase of 3.1 cents to the county’s property tax rate. Coverage in the Baltimore Business Journal observed:

…$1.2 billion operating budget for fiscal year 2013 that hikes property taxes, eliminates 71 positions and pays for hiring more teachers and police officers.

The property tax rate would rise by 3.1 cents to 0.941 cents, under the plan Leopold announced Monday. Overall spending would increase by $57.3 million, or 4.8 percent, for the fiscal year that starts July 1.
